What Is Hot Pilates? The Benefits and What to Expect

Hot Pilates is simply mat pilates practiced in an infrared heated room. It's a totally different experience to a standard mat class and the benefits go beyond sweat alone.

WHAT IS HOT PILATES? 

Hot Pilates is a mat-based Pilates class in a heated studio, typically between 30 - 37 degrees celsius.

At Wickham St Studios, Hot Mat Pilates combines OG and contemporary pilates moves with infrared heat and a focus on flow.

The result? Movement that feels more connected. A whole new challenge for your mind and body. 

The Benefits of Hot Pilates

NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION
Heat supports activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, the part responsible for calm, focus, and recovery. This is why Hot Pilates can feel grounding and energising.

ENHANCED BODY AWARENESS
Increased sensory feedback of a warm room improves interoception, your ability to feel and respond to internal sensations. This can help you feel more connected to your body and your practice. 

INCREASED CIRCULATION
The heat forces your heart to work harder, increasing circulation and oxygen delivery throughout your body.
This spike in heart rate adds an additional cardio element to your pilates class.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST HOT PILATES CLASS

The most important part of a heated class is listening to your body. Hot pilates isn't for everyone, if you're pregnant or simply find heat uncomfortable, stick to regular mat pilates, yoga and barre classes.

  • Wear light, breathable clothes you feel comfortable in

  • Arrive early to settle in

  • Bring a full length towel 

  • BRING WATER AND Always stay hydrated 

  • Move at your own pace AND TAKE BREAKS AS NEEDED
